Knowing whether the project is alive
You've launched - now you need to know what's happening. Otherwise you're in the dark.
Traffic. How many people arrive, where from, what they look at. There are simple counters that install in five minutes and don't harvest anything extra about your visitors - which matters if you care about their privacy.
Whether it's up at all. A separate thing that checks your site once a minute and messages you if it falls over. Sounds excessive until the day you discover it was down for two days and you didn't know.
Errors. Collecting the failures that happen to users. You won't see them yourself - they have different browsers, different phones, different connections.
What to watch at the start: whether anyone arrives, where from, and which page they leave on. That's enough to know whether what you're doing works.
And don't check the counter every ten minutes. The first days the numbers will be small, and that's normal. Look at the trend once a week.
