52Why AI design is obvious from across the room
And how to get out of it
You open a site and within a second you know AI made it. Let's go through the tells - so yours doesn't have them.
The default font. There are a handful of fonts AI reaches for every time unless you stop it. They're good fonts, and everyone has them.
The purple gradient. That one, corner to corner. It has become the mark of AI design roughly the way stock photos of smiling people in offices did.
Identical cards. Three in a row, icon on top, heading, two sentences. Always.
Nothing of its own. Not one detail that exists only here. All neat, all correct, all faceless.
The reason is simple: with no direction it makes the average. The average is whatever appeared most often in its training, which is templates.
The cure is equally simple: say exactly what you want. Not "make it nice" but specific colours, a specific font, a specific mood. Or better still, ask it to propose several different directions first, pick one, and work from it. That breaks the template more reliably than anything else.
