Alibaba's open-source AI family that keeps surprising everyone with how good it is. The Qwen 3.x models (3.7 and 3.8 arrived in 2026) cover almost everything: chat, code, long documents and images, and the app at chat.qwen.ai is free. For developers there's Qwen Code, a terminal coding agent in the spirit of Claude Code, and the models plug into other agents through a cheap API. Because the weights are open, there are tuned versions for every imaginable use case, and you can run the smaller ones on your own machine. A serious dark horse that doesn't get the attention it deserves simply because it's not from a Silicon Valley company.
